Lower the Overwhelming Property Taxes in Compton

The Issue

As a resident and property tax payer in Compton, I have experienced first hand the crushing weight of our city's extremely high property taxes.

Property taxes within our city are the highest amongst neighboring areas, detrimentally impacting homeowners, tenants, and potential city improvements. A significant portion of these high taxes is tied to funding city employees' pensions. This expense, although essential for the welfare of our workers, should not fall on the shoulders of the city's residents. It discourages homeownership due to high costs and spiraling rents, ultimately stagnating our city's growth. Additionally, the significant portion of our taxes allocated to pensions limits the ability to propose and pass other improvement bonds focusing on city development. Let's advocate for a revision in this taxation policy in the city charter— for the sake of affordable homes, equitable rent, and a prospective city. Please support this cause and sign the petition.
