Lower the Income Threshold for UK Family Visas

Lower the Income Threshold for UK Family Visas
The Issue
I am a primary school teacher in the UK, and my husband and I have been living and working here for the past two years. However, we are facing an imminent crisis. The government has recently increased the income threshold for family visas by £20,000. This means that as a British national, I need to earn £38,700 annually to ensure that my husband can continue living with me in our home.
This policy is not just affecting us but thousands of families across the country who find themselves unable to meet this high financial requirement. Approximately 75% of British citizens do not earn enough to sponsor a spouse's visa under these new rules.
We believe this policy is unfair and discriminatory against those in lower-income professions such as teaching or nursing who contribute significantly to society but may not meet these high income thresholds. We urge the government to reconsider this policy and reduce the visa income threshold for family visas so that families like ours can stay together.
Please sign our petition if you believe in keeping families together regardless of their income level.
