The joy derived from fishing should not be bottlenecked by extreme expenses such as a fishing license. Unfortunately, for many like me who find peace, relaxation, and leisure in fishing, the high fee poses another cost barrier. According to Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife (2020), a resident fishing license start at $44 per year, while daily tags and tags for other species compound this cost further resulting in costs well over $100 and even over $200. This does not need to be so high, especially when comparing to our neighboring states - the fishing license fee in Idaho, for example, stands at $30.68 per year. Lowering these costs would be beneficial for our state not only to foster a loved pastime of so many residents, but also to support overall accessibility to outdoor activities, possibly even increasing the rate of happiness state wide. Then, we could continue to fish, unburdened by financial strain. Join me in urging the Oregon government to reduce the cost of fishing licenses. Please sign this petition.
