Lower the city's impound maximum from $245 back to $90

The Issue

If you are towed in the city of Knoxville, the maximum the tow company can charge you is $245. This comes in stark contrast from the previous maximum at $90 just last year. This increase overly punishes those who make a small mistake, and the city of Knoxville has no shortage of people to tow. This rate is unfair and the rate should return to $90. The most towed demographic in Knoxville are students. Students often cannot work a full time job and attend school at the same time, or cannot work a job at all, and this rate reflects a large portion of funds that the average college student has at any given time, given they actually have a job. We should not let our students and other lower income citizens starve because they park somewhere they should not have or may have been forced to, due to the lack of public parking. Keeping money in the pockets of students and other citizens gives them the freedom to spend their money elsewhere and the city still collects revenue in the form of taxes.
