Lower the Age for Prosecution of Child-on-Child Sexual Crimes in Texas

Lower the Age for Prosecution of Child-on-Child Sexual Crimes in Texas
The Issue
In the great state of Texas, my 5-year-old son became a victim of a sexual assault incident committed by an 8-year-old. We were certain that justice would prevail. However, the veil of legal protection our state should provide was nowhere to be found. Despite our pleas for action, Child Protective Services (CPS) and law enforcement have been no help. The emotionally draining saga has been worsened by the baffling legal gray area that reduced the school's involvement and failed to shield my son from the trauma he has endured.
The Texas law currently allows a child to be prosecuted from the age of 10, but this fails to account for younger children who commit harmful acts against other children. We cannot sit idle and dismiss such atrocities as mere child play. By making this simple change, we can protect more children and hold more wrongdoers accountable. No child and no family should have to experience the pain and injustice that my son endured without any recourse. By signing this petition, we can pressure lawmakers to reconsider the age for prosecution of child-on-child crimes in Texas.
Join us in making this significant change. Ensure that systems of justice are there for every child, regardless of the age of their perpetrator. Support us in our mission to reform the child-on-child sexual assault laws in our state. For my son, for your children, for all Texas children - please sign this petition.
