Lower Start Value Vault Option for Xcel Silver-USAG

Lower Start Value Vault Option for Xcel Silver-USAG

The Issue

I am creating this petition in hopes to send a message to the USAG Xcel Committee that there is a clear desire and need for some alternative actions to be made in regards to the new Xcel Silver Vault.

The only current options for the Xcel Silver Vault are:

  • Handspring or 1/4-1/2 (90-180 turn on)-repulsion off on mat stack (landing to feet)

The previous Xcel Silver Vault Options prior to this year were:

  • “Vault 1A & 1B: Stretch Jump onto Vault Table + Kick Handstand Flat Back (SV = 9.50)”

  • “Handspring Vault Table, repulsion, Flat back stack mats”(SV = 10.0)

A request for consideration of 1-2 alternative vaults to be added to the Xcel Code are:

  • Jump to Handstand, Fall Flat Back (Suggested SV =9.5)

  • Straight Jump onto mat stack (32" minimum), straight jump off to controlled landing. (Suggested SV = 9.0)

The change is requested for safety reasons as the new vaults, both create concern for proper development in progressions and core stability of younger gymnasts and those that train minimal hours.  I feel very strongly that the new vaults are dangerous for many beginner silver athletes in regards to body control, ability to complete a 3 phase vault (with a completion to feet landing) and extreme concern for lower back strains on the landing.

“Xcel is an alternative USA Gymnastics competitive program
offering individual flexibility to coaches and gymnasts.
The goal of Xcel is to provide gymnasts of varying abilities and
commitment levels the opportunity for a rewarding gymnastics experience.”

Both of these proposed vaults would give coaches and athletes a safer, more trainable option, to progress athletes into the new vault.

Thank you all for your consideration and to help share the voices of coaches near and far that have gymnasts that this will benefit.
