The Issue

Every day, I witness people who rely on insulin grappling with financial burdens simply because the cost of this vital medication is outrageously high in the United States. It's heartbreaking to realize that while insulin can be purchased for less than $10 in countries like Canada and those in Europe, Americans are forced to pay hundreds of dollars for the same medication.

This isn't just a matter of convenience—it's a matter of life and death. For the millions of Americans diagnosed with diabetes, insulin isn't a choice; it's a necessity. When people are unable to afford their insulin, they are forced to ration their doses, leading to devastating health consequences or even death.

It's time to demand change and align U.S. insulin costs with those of other developed nations. Currently, the average price of a vial of insulin in the U.S. is nearly $100, while it's a fraction of that in other countries. According to a study published by the RAND Corporation, the average list price for a single vial in the U.S. is more than ten times higher than in any other country surveyed. This disparity is not only unfair but also immoral.

Concrete steps must be taken to address this issue. The government can regulate pricing practices by pharmaceutical companies to ensure they offer insulin at prices comparable to international standards. Encouraging transparency in the pricing process and allowing the importation of lower-cost insulin from countries like Canada are viable solutions as well.

People who rely on insulin should not have to choose between their health and their finances. Enough is enough. Let us bring our voices together to urge lawmakers and pharmaceutical companies to take immediate action.

Help us fight against this unjust disparity in healthcare costs. Sign this petition to demand affordable insulin for all Americans. Together, we can make a difference.
