Lower All Legal Consumption Ages to 18 in the United States

The Issue

This petition comes from a place of deep personal conviction that it's high time our nation harmonized the age of adulthood with the age of true adult freedoms. We believe that if an 18-year-old is mature enough to vote, marry, serve in the military, and take on numerous other adult responsibilities, they should also be considered mature enough for alcohol, nicotine, and THC consumption. The fact that you have to wait another three years after being acknowledged legally as an adult to exercise these rights is, frankly, ridiculous.

Current user experience bitterly proves the inconsistency in the system. Due to the existing rules, those who are 18 years old are considered responsible enough to serve their nation but are prevented from enjoying certain adult freedoms. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the human brain continues to mature into the mid-20s, but its most rapid development has already occurred before age 18. This further validates the case for making 18 the age for all legal consumption.

We are not promoting substance use; we are advocating for uniformity and consistency in our laws. Let's rectify this deeply ingrained discrepancy and treat all aspects of adulthood equally. It's time to lower all legal consumption ages to 18 in the United States. Voice your agreement by signing this petition.
