Stop the incoming proposed bell schedules for 2019 at Lowell HS

The Issue

These schedules are horrible for a variety of reasons.

1. Shorten time taken off from Mondays, School would only start an hour later instead of the usual two hours.

2. Hurts those with Chronic illnesses, these students already have the additional stress of balancing the time it takes to deal with their illness and school. This Flip-flop schedule would cause more stress and put these students at a higher risk.

3. Block schedule would never work for a high performing school like Lowell, VPAs and Language classes require daily practice and a Flip-Flop block schedule would disrupt this time.

4. Supporters claim that these schedules "reduce stress and reduce the amount of Homework", while they do no such thing as HW loads would remain the same and Stress would increase due to their confusing nature.

5. It's hard on all classes, How are teachers supposed to make a lesson plan for a whole 70-90min? How do they expect students to pay attention for that long? 70-90min classes are unrealistic and harmful to the students and teachers that have to deal with them.

6. They plan to split Reg time, grades will no longer all have the same time for Reg, causing Confusion and splitting up the Lowell population making students feel more isolated and alone.

7.There is very little, almost none, student and teacher representation as Teachers have been gagged from expressing their opinions and students have been blindfolded from the schedule, and the nature of its creation.

As you look at all these negatives without a hint of positive, you may wonder who would advocate for these schedules. Some may point to the mysterious special committee tasked with creating these schedules, but ultimately this decision comes down to Lowell administrator Mr. Ishibashi as the students and teachers at Lowell HS have no efficient representation.
