Please Honor the Will of the Voters Permit Marijuana Businesses on Time
It is important to regulate marijuana responsibly for the safety and health of the community by removing it from the underground market.
Frost Yarnell (Councilwoman)
Ron Sackett (Councilman)
I understand this is a very difficult time for Louisville and other areas impacted by the floods. Thank you for everything you've done to help our community and for showing leadership and sincere compassion in this difficult time.
I also want to take the time to address leadership on another important issue that affects the health and safety of our community; the important issue of implementing Amendment 64. I am writing to ask you to honor the will of 62% of the voters in Louisville and implement Amendment 64 responsibly. Louisville voters have overwhelmingly supported sensible marijuana reform. There is no doubt that a majority of the citizens of Louisville want the City Council to permit retail marijuana businesses on time.
I am concerned that the implementation of regulated marijuana businesses will be delayed due to the desire to put the issue to a second vote. The citizens of Louisville have already voted on this issue and overwhelmingly support the responsible regulation of marijuana in Louisville. Louisville already regulates marijuana sales. It shouldn't be that difficult to allow compliant medical marijuana businesses to switch over.
Recreational marijuana has been used and sold in Louisville for decades, but now we finally have the opportunity to regulate it, tax it, and control it. Louisville is projected to generate millions of dollars in tax revenue by permitting recreational businesses. Please put an end to Louisville's entire marijuana black market by responsibly permitting retail marijuana businesses. Thank you for supporting sensible marijuana reform and being a leader locally and nationally.
