Louisiana State university is home to over thirty thousand students.the school forces a "required activity fee" for all full time students. This fee is over 600 dollars per semester, and part of those fees are for the use of the LSU recreational center whether the student goes or not.

The ongoing problem is that the courts seem like they are never clean. Even in tennis shoes designed to be used for hardwood floors, it is still very slippery which can lead to injury. This applies to all students who use the court whether it be for basketball, volleyball, or badminton. Having slippery conditions not only encourage an unsafe environment, but it also takes out the competitiveness and fun for most students who use the courts for recreational fun.

I have complained before, but the simple response was to use the new court on the new side of the urec. There are two problems with this. The first being that the old courts have always been slippery and unclean ever since I can remember, even before the construction of the new side of the gym. The second being the new side is typically well over packed.

My opinion along with others, is that the solution should be easy to implement, especially if we are being forced to pay for the urec (full-time students). Yes this made me something so trivial and "small" to most, but for some of us, playing at the urec is how we distress from our busy lives of being a student. There is nothing worst than not be able to play your hardest or run your hardest at the fear of slipping and pulling a muscle, or worst injury. I just ask that since we are paying for the service (no choice for full time students), please provide an environment that is safe and enjoyable for students.
