Animal Welfare in Las Vegas, New Mexico

Animal Welfare in Las Vegas, New Mexico

The Issue

As a community, we have the power to create positive change. Every animal is an individual and worthy of lifesaving help, but we must think beyond just saving one animal. We must promote long-term change that ensures the well-being and safety of both animals and community members. Fortunately, the Animal Welfare Coalition has worked to promote and initiate programs which focus on this.

The Animal Welfare Coalition (AWC) is a nonprofit created in 2008 by local citizens compelled to address the cruelty and neglect of cats and dogs in Las Vegas and San Miguel County. They've helped community members by providing pet food, low-cost spay and neuter services, and rescuing, rehabilitating, and finding forever homes for the sick, the injured, and the forgotten.

In 2013, the City of Las Vegas, New Mexico contracted with the AWC to operate the city shelter. For 8 years, the AWC has worked to improve animal welfare in Las Vegas. Their contract is up for renewal June 2022.

We support the Animal Welfare Coalition of Northeastern, New Mexico, and urge the City of Las Vegas to continue is partnership with the Animal Welfare Coalition by renewing their contract.
