Add women's field hockey as a high school athletic program

Add women's field hockey as a high school athletic program
The Issue
Loudoun County is home to a number of girls that love to play field hockey. These girls are not being given a chance to proudly contribute and represent their high schools by playing the sport they love and at which they excel. Most of the counties surrounding Loudoun County in Virginia have field hockey as a high school sport including Fairfax, Prince William, Faquier, Alexandria, Arlington, and Stafford. Even some of the poorer counties in Virginia, like Gloucester, with just one high school, continue to have women's field hockey as a high school sport.
As of 2007, Loudoun County had the highest median household income of any county in the United States. Loudoun County has 13 high schools and more are being built. Yet Loudoun County's girls are being denied the opportunity to play an internationally recognized sport that is prevalent in so many other American school systems.
In fact, over half of Virginia's public colleges and universities have a field hockey program. Girls in our county are being shut out of opportunities to fairly compete for spaces on these teams since they do not get the chance to play at the same level. Please give the girls in our county the same chance in this sport, as girls in the surrounding counties that closely match or resemble Loudoun County’s demographic.
