The Ontario government has no school policy for type1 diabetic children, risking lives!
The Issue
The Ontario government has no policy regarding Ontario students with type 1 diabetes, that includes not administering glucagon which in the case of a type 1 diabetic that has gone into hypoglycemia from low blood sugar can be life saving, a diabetic student in rural Ontario would have to wait for a ambulance to have a paramedic give glucagon which if delayed too long could be life threatening. Glucagon is very similar to an epipen for people with allergies, if glucagon is given and not needed there is no adverse effects however if a diabetic is hypoglycemic and not given glucagon quickly they could DIE. I am starting this petition for my son Jude who is 8 years old and goes to a rural school and all other diabetic children who are currently at risk, we should not wait for the death of a diabetic child to make change.
