Exclusion from the Los Angeles Times Guild.

The Issue

The undersigned employees and members of the Los Angeles Times Photo Department do not want to be included in the bargaining unit of the Los Angeles Times Guild or in the formation of it.

The photo department does not want to be represented by the LAT Guild nor wants to help in the formation of the LAT Guild in any manner. The photo department hereby petitions the LAT Guild and all third parties involved for full exclusion from the LAT Guild newsroom bargaining unit.

To the extent that any of the undersigned employees have ever previously signed a union “authorization card” or other indication of support for union representation, the undersigned employees hereby revoke that card, effective immediately. More specifically, our employer, the LAT Guild, and all third parties or arbitrators must take notice that any such card signed by an undersigned employee is null and void.

The undersigned employees and members of the Los Angeles Times Photo Department hereby petition the National Labor Relations Board to postpone the upcoming union election, currently scheduled for Jan. 4, 2018, to give the LAT Guild and its prospective members an opportunity to reassess which departments to include or exclude from their bargaining unit.

In the event our employer ever voluntarily recognizes the LAT Guild as the bargaining representative of employees, the undersigned employees hereby petition the National Labor Relations Board to hold a decertification election to determine whether the majority of employees truly wish to be represented by the LAT Guild.

We wish our colleagues who want to unionize the best in their efforts. We just want to be excluded from it.
