The Issue
FUND the Los Angeles Police Department
Continue to fund the LAPD who serves their community and protects them with the utmost respect and reverence for human life.
Fight back against those who would leave us weak, and undefended. Fund and budget for continuous training. Keep our police safe.
In light of recent political and social activists calling for the defunding of police, several cities, including our own City of Los Angeles, have already announced major budget cuts to their police departments. This political move, bending to the demands of recent protests calling for police reform, will consequently have the alternative effect.
The Los Angeles Police Department stands as one of the most progressive departments in the nation. This progression is largely due to multiple practices that have already been put into play. LAPD does not stand for any level of police misconduct. In fact it actively seeks to weed out any individual whose actions or motivations would tarnish the badge. This is done through thorough investigations into complaints made by both civilians and sworn employees as well as frequent audits related to best practices.
Every officer wears a body camera. Every officer is required to go through implicit bias training. Every officer is required to report misconduct. Every officer is required to go through deescalation training and is required to implement it. Most recently, the department has finally offered salary incentives for completion of higher education.
These practices cost money. And these practices are what stand to be directly effected by the slashing of budgets. Response time to calls will rise, proactive policing will decrease and ultimately the people of Los Angeles stand to be directly affected by a rise of crime throughout the city.
For the betterment of the people of Los Angeles, we’re calling on the City leaders to halt any moves to defund our police.
We are the line who defends the community everyday. We educate and enforce the law. FUND the LAPD
