Support Mass Public Transit on the 134 Freeway

The Issue

As residents and business owners of Eagle Rock, we support public transportation, affordable housing, a cleaner environment, but we are gravely concerned about the impact of the Refined Project Alternative of the North Hollywood to Pasadena Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Corridor, which was presented to the Metro Board of Directors for an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) on May 23, 2019. It included the street-running route along Eagle Rock’s Colorado Boulevard as the only route option between Glendale and Pasadena. One of the original alternatives, a freeway-running route on the 134 option was not included.

Colorado Boulevard is Eagle Rock's east-west artery, and establishing two dedicated BRT lanes would require significant changes to its existing medians, street parking, flow of traffic, and bike lanes. The short-term effects during the BRT’s construction period, as well as the long-term effects before and after its completion, could potentially devastate many established and new local businesses and severely increase traffic in residential side streets.

We are asking for your support to demand the adding a hybrid route option along the 134 freeway (with stops at the Figueroa/Colorado & Broadway/Harvey intersections) for the Eagle Rock segment of the Refined Project Alternative to the impending EIR, since it would be the only way to determine the most efficient, ecologically responsible and economically sustainable route.
