No favoritism in a classroom

The Issue

We all know how damaging favoritism in a classroom can be. Labeling pupils or students undesirably just because of their capabilities is a serious issue that should be discontinued. In the same manner, banishing partiality takes conscious effort every day, but treating some pupils differently than others, whether subtly or overtly, can impact everyone in the class.

In reality, there are still cases when other pupils notice that there is “teacher’s pet” in the class: the one who is the apple of the eye, the one which gets his teachers attention, the one who is trusted more than anyone else. But being professional, how can we teachers ensure fairness, especially when calling on students, grading, rewarding, and interacting in general with them.
