Black lives matter and police brutality is a real issue. We as a community should be doing more to stop these acts of racism than protesting with no specific end goal. The protests are getting violent and peaceful activists are being associated with rioters and looters. We need a direction to this movement: something to stop the spread of anger and hate. Something that will genuinely make a change. We need to stop getting angry about the problem and begin working towards a tangible solution.

Community oversight is a necessary check and balance on the police force. The police have too much power and justice is rarely found in the aftermath of misuse of power. If we had a council of educated civilians to dictate whether policemen deserve legal consequences justice would be restored. Right now, when a cop commits a crime on duty, other police are the ones to dictate wether they deserve punishment. This is a clearly biased system. There should be a community council with specified training in police brutality and the mistreatment of minorities.If they could limit this power we could create real change.
