On Stronach Avenue near Stockland Greenhills in NSW there are a lot of native birds that need our protection. People speed on the road and use it as a thoroughfare. I have lost count of the number of dead birds I have removed off the road.

Recently, I had to remove a mother duck and one of her bubs off the road, right before the turnoff into the centre. This absolutely broke my heart, and I knew it was time to do something. Mitchell Drive and Molly Morgan both have lights or round-a-bouts, which slow people down. Stronach Avenue has nothing.

Whilst it is the ducks I was initially fighting for, using speed reduction methods will help all. I have seen people drive straight through the pedestrian crossing that is between the shops and the retirement village, when there was an elderly person about to cross.

The entrance to Stockland on the retirement village side of Stronach Avenue, at the bottom of the hill, is where the mum and bub were hit. It is cars heading down the hills on both sides that have hit birds, so both hills really need something to slow people down. We also need signs that alert drivers to slow down and inform them of our native wildlife.
