Stop the Impending Closure of Glen Ridge Public School

Stop the Impending Closure of Glen Ridge Public School
The Issue
Glen Ridge Public School, 101 South Drive, St. Catharines, Ontario, is currently threatened to be closed by the DSBN early next year. The French Immersion Programs that have been appearing more and more often in schools in the Niagara region are taking in a large amount of students from smaller schools such as ours. Unfortunately, our current population is as low as 57 students, and consists of only 4 classes. This beloved school has been operating since the 1920's, and for good reason too. The community of Old Glen Ridge is more than just that- we are a family. Generations of them have moved here and attended Glen Ridge, most families even moving back from larger cities so that their children can share in the same education experiences as well as the emotional benefits of attending a small school in such a family oriented community. We need to save these memories and the facility in order to ensure its future and the future of our community- playing grounders on the playground, the Halloween parade, and 'Art Days', the days on which a variety of artists came in to show us techniques and introduce us to the arts. Many different ideas were proposed at a recent Accommodation Review (December 2nd, 2015), but none were really considered by the DSBN-such as opening up to the students of the downtown region, or introducing the French Immersion Program right at Glen Ridge. Please sign to show that the decision is NOT official and that they MUST listen to what we have to say, as well as to stop the commercialization of our city and make a change in the wonderful community of Old Glen Ridge.
