Sarah Walsh started this petition to Long Beach City Council and

Recently the City of Long Beach has installed 197 paid parking spots in a mainly residential area from Hermosa Ave to Temple Ave. Parking is limited to three hours from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at $1 per hour. Taking away residential parking on 4th Street is going to negatively affect our community. This is going to create a disaster for residents of this area that have already had to deal with parking scarcity in these neighborhoods. Most of us rely on street parking and are not offered or cannot afford parking spots or garages. The City of Long Beach Public Works department stated that the metered spots were installed to create parking turnover for local businesses on 4th St. The problem is that most of these spots aren't in front of local businesses, they are in front of residential homes and apartments. Lower income renters, most of which are families, rely on street parking. As of now the city has no plans to create parking passes for neighborhood residents. This means that people won't be able to park in front of their own homes without paying. We are asking the city for a safe and effective solution to the parking problem by either limiting the paid parking spots to the mainly commercial "Retro Row" area from Cherry Ave to Junipero Ave or provide residents with parking passes so we can park within a safe distance of our homes.
