Why this petition matters

Started by Kim Cassidy

My name is Kim Cassidy, and I own Action Packs, a dog walking company and frequent the Stoney Creek Off-Leash Dog Park. I am starting this petition to address the lack of lighting in the park. Currently there is no lighting in the parking area or the interior of the park. This is a serious safety issue.

The dog park’s hours are 6am-10pm. With daylight savings, the park is now dark around 5:00pm, well before many people are home from work. This leaves 5 hours of use in total darkness. Ambient light from Adelaide street is the only source of light.

Once dark, people feel unsafe walking alone as its pitch black at the rear of the park. They cannot supervise their dogs, they can not clean up their dogs poop and most importantly there is a risk of injury as you literally can not see what’s 10 feet in front of you. The parking lot is also unlit making it a prime target for injury and/or criminal activity.

The Stoney Creek off-leash dog park is a wonderful community resource. It allows local residents the opportunity to exercise their dogs and it serves as a social outlet for both people and their pups. It is used by hundreds of people 365 days a year.

Please sign this petition if you would like to see lights added to the dog park.
