SFUSD Cancel School Due To The Spread Of The Coronavirus

The Issue

The coronavirus has been spreading rapidly. Although it is rare for this virus to evolve and infect humans, it has been happening recently. The coronavirus can be transmitted and spread much like any other cold-causing viruses, through infected people coughing and sneezing, touching the hands and face of those infected, and other objects like doorknobs that infected people have touched. This outbreak has reached California. We, students in the San Francisco Unified School District, believe that if this virus gets more dangerous, SFUSD and surrounding school districts should cancel school for a period of time until it has been contained. Being in such an enclosed space for 7+ hours can greatly affect the health of students, teachers, and staff. We are more likely to encounter the coronavirus if it does happen to spread to San Francisco, and just want to protect the well being of those around us. Please share, and thank you.
