Hold SFPD Accountable

Hold SFPD Accountable
The Issue
August 21, 2020 a coalition BLM advocacy groups and activists took to the Warming Hut at Crissy Field for a national rally against Police violence. This protest was supposed to include a march across the Golden Gate Bridge, to honor those who have died in the COVID 19 Pandemic and to call for systemic reform in how cities across the Bay Area handle police conduct. SFPD showed how their police conduct themselves by violently clashing with the protesters. SFPD partnering with CHP and Golden Gate Bridge Patrol locked the gates long before sundown and refused to allow protesters through. At first, the organizers were told by the police that marching across the Golden Gate was well within their rights. They lied. The police met protesters with batons and riot gear to combat the protest and prevent the bridge from being occupied- escalating the situation. They were physically pushing protesters away from the public street and into the parking lot. The protesters were not doing anything illegal nor had any illegal weaponry on them.
We the People declare the actions of SFPD, CHP, and Bridge Patrol unacceptable and demand the immediate review of all personnel involved so that they may be held accountable for escalating the situation and violating our first amendment rights.
Incident Report:
- One Black Eye
- One Broken Wheelchair
- Slashed Hand
- Sprained Fingers
- Illegally confiscated Personal Property
- Violated 1st Amendment Rights
