No left turn into Charlwood Road, Putney between 7am & 10am weekdays.
The Issue
We, the residents of Chelverton Road propose that access into Charlwood Road from Upper Richmond Road between the hours of 7am and 10am on weekdays is restricted. We suggest that there be no left turn into Charlwood Road to decrease the rat running through to the High Street. There are similar schemes used all over the borough.
We have been severely impacted by the increased traffic levels in Putney (due to Hammersmith Bridge closure, increased use of cars due to COVID etc). Most mornings the road is completely blocked. This is not only a huge inconvenience, we are also being suspected to high levels of pollution with drivers leaving their cars idling. Our street not only houses us residents, but is also the main thoroughfare for children walking to several local schools.
We are also having to deal with the noise - engine noise, loud music and horns beeping which adds to the chaos. This can start as early as 7am.
If there were ever an emergency, access would be very difficult for a fire engine or ambulance during the hours specified as there is simply no way out, once you're in the street. There is also sheltered accommodation for the elderly within Chelverton Rd, and the difficult access puts them at risk of not getting medical assistance when they need it.
Thank you for reading, and hope that you will support our proposal.
