Why this petition matters

Started by Lisa Bunclark

It's becoming increasingly evident that there is not enough places for small dogs to walk and play safely around the Thornton Heath/Croydon area.

Ultimately, dogs of a certain size should always be on the lead in public parks or at the least muzzled. BUT, we need enclosed, secure places that small dogs can play and socialise with no risk.

On Thursday 28th May, while playing in Green Lane Recreational Park - Highbury Avenue Thornton Heath - an owner of two (suspected) Rottweilers entered, let his dogs off the lead and one charged unprovoked and attacked my 11-week old Jackapoo puppy Ebony, killing her instantly.

In the chaos, I tried to get between the dog and my puppy, and was bitten and bruised in the process, but unfortunately wasn't able to save her.

The owner of the dogs put the leads back on and took off without bothering to stick around and support me and what horrific incident had just happened.

The local police have deemed this not a criminal case and don't want to pursue this further. I feel disgusted by how I was treated and feared for my safety, and do so of others if this man takes his dogs out again.

Please get behind this cause for all dog owners who have encountered fear and worry for their puppies and dogs while playing - or worst, pure heartbreak.

Sincerely, Lisa

(Resident of Thornton Heath, Croydon)
