In the past, The Loitokitok District hospital was the best in Kajiado South Constituency. It offered state of the art treatment to patients and it was the light in providing healthcare. An article in The Loitokitok Website suggests otherwise. The hospital is in deplorable conditions as patients are sleeping on wired beds despite them paying Ksh 250 per day.

Since health was devolved, the status of the hospital has been in peril. The hospital is understaffed as one nurse attends 36-40 patients. There has been numerous strikes by the hospital's casual workers who have been claiming poor pay. There are no private hospitals around with wards so patients are forced to go for treatment to the neighboring country Tanzania.
