Stop the inhumane trapping and killing of healthy, harmless cats!

Every year in America alone, more than ten million cats and kittens will be euthanized by shelters and pounds. Another 70 million will roam the streets, cold, hungry, and alone, never knowing love, kindness, or a home.

Against those odds, it is near impossible for any stray cat to survive. However, in Orlando, Florida, a small colony of stray cats found happiness. A local Trap-Neuter-Release program spayed and vaccinated the creatures and began caring for them. For a few short years, the cats enjoyed a life of safety, a life where they were fed daily and free of disease. Then, disaster struck.

In January 2012, the Loews resorts chain in Orlando, Florida, (Loews Royal Pacific, Loews Portofino and Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando Resorts) began considering a plan to remove healthy, neutered feral cats from managed colonies on their grounds. Although Loews had previously supported the Trap-Neuter-Return efforts, their abrupt turnaround put the cats’ lives at risk. Alley Cat Allies, along with others, reached out, offered guidance and assistance, and hoped that Loews would make the right choice and allow the cats to stay in their home.

In April, Loews decided to move forward with their trap and remove plan. They hired a trapper, and the cats’ caregivers were forbidden to continue to care for them. The cats were left in traps for up to nine hours, baking in the hot sun in temperatures of 90 degrees, with no food or water. Eyewitnesses posted photos of cats who were injured from the frantic struggle to free themselves—at least three with bloody noses, another with a gash on her head.

Loews goes to great pains to sell itself as an animal-friendly hotel. But these vaccinated, healthy, neutered cats are being taken from their colony—their family and their home. When I heard and saw what was happening, I knew that I had to do something. I gave a speech at my middle school to drum up support, and though my small community has done the  best it can, we need help. With this petition, I hope to make my campaign not just local, but global.

As of yet, Loews has refused to cooperate and has made it very clear that they will continue to remove and kill every last cat in the area. The harmless animals have only just begun their new life as healthy, cared-for cats, and Loews is trying to take it away from them. We demand that these grievious crimes be put to and end as quickly as possible. The animals need us to speak up for them. They need voices. Be that voice.

Don't let one greedy company destroy hundreds of harmless animals' lives.
