Local Representation for Battery Park City

Local Representation for Battery Park City
Why this petition matters

Battery Park City (BPC), is a lower Manhattan community of approximately 16,000 residents, 42,000 workers and many more who use and love its public spaces and parks, is currently governed by a body of 7 governor appointed officials.
We are calling on our governor to sign the legislation that will require 5 of 9, a majority of seats in the BPCA, to be filled by local residents whose primary residence is BPC. We are asking that the residents be consulted, have fair representation and a voice on decisions impacting our own community. Our law passed in the legislature and is waiting for Governor Hochul to sign it. In the meantime, the BPCA hired a lobbyist to oppose it and is about to start demolishing Wagner Park to increase commercial space by 4-5x.

We want and deserve representatives who are personally invested in the community. It's the same reasons why New York passed a law granting this right to the residents of Roosevelt Island.
Please stand with our BPC community and sign this petition that seeks fair representation on our local governing board.
All peoples deserve to be governed by officials that truly represent them.
