Save Our Voices - Campaign Update
Dec 17, 2020 —
Regional Australians need to have their voices heard.
Thank you to those supporters who have backed the Save Our Voices campaign to date. After reading all your comments, we know that saving regional media is extremely important to you.
We know that you rely on your local news and information services to stay in touch with what’s happening in your communities and to stay connected with each other. We know how much you value being informed with the latest information that matters to you – whether it be local politics, sport and business, weather events such as drought and bushfires and community events.
We know that regional media is a true reflection of YOU and your views, and encompasses over 9 million Australians who live and work outside the capital cities.
We want to assure you that the Save Our Voices campaign continues to call for urgent media reforms to allow regional media organisations the chance to remain viable, employ local and invest for the future. This is why we truly value your support.
The Government recently released a ‘green paper’ which aimed to address the need for media reforms to ensure the sustainability of the media industry in Australia. While the Government acknowledged that traditional media businesses are suffering and specifically highlighted that regional broadcasters are facing significant challenges, it stopped short of any clear and actionable recommendations. We are however hopeful this means the Government is (finally!) starting to get the message that regional media organisations are at a critical tipping point and that the Government needs to act before it’s too late.
You can read more about the Save Our Voices response to the ‘green paper’ here: https://www.saveourvoices.com.au/media/fletchers-spectrum-grab-disguised-as-reform-save-our-voices-media-release/
We also encourage you to tune in to our Save Our Voices program "The Local Angle: Save Our Voices with Ray Martin” which will be broadcast on-air and online, premiering on Prime on 22 December 2020 at 7.00pm.

Let’s keep pushing to save our regional voices.
