Australia is suffering a terrible drought & most of the country is tinderbox dry, or on fire.

I think it is a real insult to all people affected by the drought or fires, especially those who have suffered loss,  & those very brave volunteers who continue to give so much of themselves, to see local councils wasting money on such dangerous frivolity. 

There is way too much burning already. There are total fire bans in much of the country. How could councils even think of sending fireworks into the air. 

My first choice for the money set aside for fireworks would be to channel it into the range of voluntary organisations that are doing their best for the people & animals that have suffered. 

If a spectacular display is really deemed necessary,  then opt for an environmentally friendly laser light show or similar. 

I live in the Wollongong area. Thankfully we haven't been  directly affected by the fires,  only the drought.  My heart goes out to those who are really suffering , including animals that have suffered terrible, uncalculated losses to life & habitat. 

I'd like to see a ban on all fireworks in times of drought or bushfires. Please lend your support.
