The people of Knottingley and Pontefract surrounding areas are being left to wait up to 30 minutes for an ambulance. This is costing lives! The closest ambulance station in West Yorkshire is at Pinderfields hospital in Wakefield. Why can’t we have a small ambulance service at Pontefract hospital for our local area? The ambulance could be with our emergencies within 5/10 minutes maximum. Our lives are in danger having to wait for first response and paramedics to get to us in Knottingley and Pontefract.
2 weeks ago my 42 year old best friend had a cardiac arrest at home. 999 were called and myself, her husband, son and neighbour battled for 30 minutes doing CPR to try and save her life. The ambulance arrived after 32 minutes and immediately used a defibrillator to restart her heart. Not so long after another ambulance and first response car attended the property.
Lisa was taken to Pinderfields and put on life support for 5 days until it was switched off due to no Brain activity.
Lisa’s brain was starved of oxygen because of the length of time it had stopped. Lisa left a family of 3 children and a loving husband.

We need paramedics closer to us in Knottingley. The doctors in ICU agreed with how vulnerable we are in our homes due to how far away we live from Pinderfields hospital.

An ambulance service at Pontefract hospital, like it used to be, would benefit people in the Knottingley, Pontefract and even Castleford area. Knottingley is the last town of West Yorkshire, it is 1 mile from North Yorkshire.  I questioned why an ambulance wouldn’t be sent from Selby which is closer to us that Pinderfields. My answer was we are West Yorkshire and an ambulance wouldn’t be sent from a different county even though we are 1 mile out of North Yorkshire.

We need first responders to respond to us immediately, Lisa’s life could’ve been saved it the paramedics could get to us sooner with the defibrillator.
The NHS are amazing and I totally worship our paramedics and ambulance service. I think they would agree if they were closer to the area more lives would be saved.

We pay all our taxes and we aren’t being provided with the immediate service we need to save lives and help. Please please can you agree to sign my petition and share so we can make this happen.
