Pay your factory workers in Bangladesh a fair living wage
The Issue
It has been a year and a couple months since the Rana Plaza factory collapsed in Bangladesh, killing 1, 138 workers. Although Loblaw and Joe Fresh have provided monetary compensation and signed the Accord on Fire and Building Saftey, it is still important that those producing clothing for Joe Fresh in Bangladesh factories recieve a fair living wage. The minimum wage in Bangladesh is much lower than the wage needed to afford basic necessities and live a decent lifestyle. We must urge Loblaw to use H&M as an example, and strive to achieve a sustainable buisness model that supports living wages. At the end of the day, if that means we, the consumers, must spend more money on Joe Fresh merchandise in order to ensure that the lives of garment factory workers in Bangladesh are that much better, I say we open up those wallets.
