The East Coast of Australia has been ravaged by the most extreme weather event ever experienced.  These floods have displaced thousands of people, they will take years to repair and rebuild.

Due to second homeowners and the Air BnB industry holding inventory for many homes in these regions, we are faced with thousands of people unable to move back into their homes, and nowhere to go.  In Byron Bay, it is estimated that up to 30% of housing is purely used for holiday rentals, and many of these places remain empty even during a crisis of this scale.  This is a story that is repeated all the way from the Sunshine Coast to Wollongong and beyond.  

Now impacted heavily from the recent floods and losing any stability whatsoever, and the lack of any housing at all it seems ludicrous that houses are there and people need to live somewhere whilst they repair and rebuild.

Affordable housing has been on the agenda for years, with little to no action.  This is a true head in the sand approach and now the time has come for serious action.

Sign this petition to lobby the Australian Government to push Air BnB owners, holiday home owners, real estate to rent their homes out to local people who have been displaced, rebalance the communities and provide a solution.  If anyone has the power to do something it is the government, if anyone has the power to tell them what you want, it is you!
