Nobody said this upcoming year is going to be easy. But it doesn’t have to be this hard.

As you know, we are the midst of a global pandemic, social unrest, and a huge economic depression. And LMU students just received an email from our university that tuition for the 2020-2021 school year is due soon and it’s not going to be lowered, even though most students have half of our courses online.

LMU has asked in their emails for the students to be patient while they work on a solution, rearranging classes and trying to make the best of it. For us. What would be better for us is some relief. An expectation for students and their families to pay the full 50K+ tuition currently is laughable at best.

Students have lost their jobs, parents have lost their jobs, hundreds of thousands of people are on unemployment—which is set to run out at the end of July. Students loan payments are also going to resume this quarter, only increasing the financial burden. Eviction bans are going to be lifted, causing low income students to potentially lose their homes.

LMU has been very vocal about change and helping those in need. So we ask you LMU. Help us. We’re in need.

Make us pay for the classes that we can actually go to, and reduce costs for the ones that are online. As many students can testify, online distance learning is not nearly as effective as in-person, and therefore the value is not the same. We understand that things are going to have to change post-pandemic, but the financial burden should not remain the same.

Reduce tuition.
