Student Health Insurance for LMU-DCOM

Student Health Insurance for LMU-DCOM
The Issue
Signing this petition is stating you are in favor of being offered student health insurance by LMU-DCOM that will be billed as part of our tuition. Students will then have the option to either accept or waive out of the student health insurance, depending on what is best for them.
Currently, LMU-DCOM students who turn 26 years old, or who are not listed as a dependent on a family member's health insurance, are forced to pay for their healthcare needs either out-of-pocket or enroll in a government funded program. LMU-DCOM does provide some health and wellness services to their students such as: free therapy and an account to WellConnect. They also provide primary care visit options to their students, but uninsured students only get a 30% discount on the outpatient services provided at the visit. While these efforts are appreciated, we feel that they do not take into consideration the diverse and sometimes limiting health and socioeconomic backgrounds of our student body.
We believe that all educational institutions should provide the option for student health insurance, especially medical schools. The majority of Osteopathic Medical Schools in the US (roughly 74%) currently provide a health insurance option to their students, that may be waived if the student so desires. We kindly ask that you take our request into consideration. This will not only benefit the students' physical health, but will also make LMU-DCOM an even better student experience than it already is.
