Llanelli for independent Local Authority - reinstate the Llanelli Borough Council!

Llanelli for independent Local Authority - reinstate the Llanelli Borough Council!

The Issue

Back in 1973, Llanelli Borough Council was formed. This was the local authority for Llanelli. In 1996, this was abolished, and replaced with the Carmarthenshire County Council, when the county of Carmarthenshire was created. This was a controversial move, as ever since this happened, the town of Llanelli has been treated badly by the CCC, with listed buildings being demolished, (including the Stepney Hotel and Island House), tasteless modern structures erected in their place, all this done with no consideration from the public whatsoever. There are also rumours there is a large amount of corruption going on, such as bribing. Also, the town has a large amount of closed shops, no encouragement for local business, and also has a drug problem in the town centre.

The aim is to reinstate the former Llanelli Borough Council (or a new council), which will hopefully sort out all the above problems, plus have better people with more respect for the town and the residents. The previous council was made up of Llanelli, Burry Port, Pwll, Trimsaran, Pembrey, Pontyates, Ponthenri, Pontyberem, Carway, and Kidwelly, possibly Ammanford, Crosshands and Tumble. These could be reinstated as part of the new local authority. Llanelli has two town councils, Llanelli Town Council and Llanelli Rural Council, if these joined up with some of the others, this could work.

Please sign this petition to give Llanelli a better Local Authority, and also a better future.
