Save the Horse Chestnut tree at Allerton Hall/Clarke's Gardens, Liverpool

The Issue

The tree in question is at Allerton Hall in Clarke's Gardens, Liverpool. It can be seen from the car park.

This beautiful tree has been part of mine, and many other people's lives and has come to hold a deep meaning for us all.. We've played beneath it in (and on it ) during childhood. Met beneath it in youth. Visited it in adulthood. Its limbs have later cradled our own children and they have grown with this tree.

A play area has been recently built very close to the tree. If the tree is hazardous why put it there ? There's plenty of room for it to have been built further away from this tree.

  • There is no clear reason for felling. The tree is 300 yrs old but not obviously diseased or storm damaged,. Similarly aged trees in the city have been supported and braced. So could this one.
  • A temporary preservation order should be raised whilst this discussion takes place, preferably followed by a permanent preservation order.
  • If root compression is a concern, an enclosure could be built around the bole.

We ask for a full explanation and accompanying proof of the reasons behind removal.
