"13,000 innocent lives are currently stranded, in limbo, enduring cramped, hot and humid conditions aboard the stricken livestock ship MV Ocean Outback near Fremantle, WA. As of today, the 9th of January, they have already been trapped on board for 12 days, and we are advised that the ship cannot be repaired in Australia.Unless they are offloaded very soon, many will get sick and will die, which will trigger a domino effect. In fact, some animals have already died. The live export industry claims it will strive to improve animal welfare standards, however, the way this situation is unfolding is at blatant odds with any such claim. We have repeatedly asked both the shipping company and the exporter/charterer to put the welfare of the animals first, as they keep assuring us they always do, yet they will not do the obvious right thing here.It's now well and truly time for the authorities to act to get the sheep and cattle off this ship, in order to avoid an animal welfare catastrophe."
