Live-stream Wymondham Town Council meetings

The Issue

This petition calls for the Wymondham Town Council to live-stream their meetings to the public. By presenting them with a clear mandate, we can make this happen.

I wrote to Wymondham Town Council on 21st March 2022 requesting that a reasonable adjustment be made under the Equalities Act (2010), but this has not yet been implemented in an official capacity and it has not been made clear when this may be decided upon, let alone implemented.

It is essential to democracy that public participation is enabled, particularly for those of us who struggle to, or cannot, attend due to disability.

But it's not just disabled people such as myself who would benefit from this change. The modern world places all manner of demands on us all, whether it's work commitments or childcare responsibilities. Maybe you just want to put your feet up and see what your Council are doing from the comfort of your home. This change will help you as much as it will help me.

It is essential that this change is made ASAP.

Every meeting that is not made accessible to the public is another opportunity for the Council to go unchecked. So, please, sign this petition and make it clear to the Town Council that you care about how they spend your money, how they act in office and how your Town is run.

What's more, the Town Council Clerk has a fund of £10,000 that can be spent at their discretion. This is a perfect example of a change that ought to be quickly implemented but, instead, it has provided another opportunity for important decisions such as the Mayoral vote to happen without the public being offered enough opportunity to be present (aside from physically being there, which isn't always an option).

If you believe that local democracy should catch up with the rest of us in the 21st Century, then please sign this petition.
