In Honor of May 19, 2011, the Day that Forever Changed Our Lives

On this day, exactly 8 years ago, a terrible injustice was inflicted upon my daughter.  Besides the article posted below, she has spent most the past 8 years in silence, hoping that somehow justice would find a way to prevail.  However, after 8 years, there seems to be very little hope that the judicial system that we have put our trust and our faith in will do anything to either recognize or validate the assault, or take any actions that may help educate the public so they may make informed decisions--especially those who live near or around the perpetrator of this heinous crime.  At one point, we were assured that our case would not fall upon deaf ears, as the offender would be required to register on the National Sex Offender Registry.  However, we have never been given the satisfaction of knowing that record of the assault would indeed help protect others, and prevent the possible occurrence of a similar travesty, as even though the offender is bound by the terms of the registry, his presence on the registry remains hidden from public view.  Originally, we thought it was only to remain hidden from public view until the offender's 18th birthday, then it was believed that the information would go public in roughly 2 weeks, upon the date on my daughter's 18th birthday, however, it turns out both scenarios were incorrect, and that the information regarding my daughter's sexual assault offender will remain hidden until another innocent victim's life has been ruined beyond all recognition.  If you have never personally been affected by sexual assault, consider yourself to be lucky.  However, for the sake of your child, your grandchild, your neighbor, or anyone that you love or care about, please consider signing this petition, so that true transparency may exist within the National Sex Offender Registry, so that we may all be educated and informed when dangerous sexual predators relocate into our communities, especially those that target our children, or have committed sexual assaults that have resulted in great physical harm to their victims.  Actions speak louder than words--act now and try to be part of the solution to providing a voice and justice for those who have been shunned and turned away by the very justice system that was suppose to protect them.
