I recently discovered that my pleas had been addressed by Congress roughly 14 years ago.  At that time, we were living in a society with out cell phones, and Facebook was still making its introduction into main stream society.  Amie Zyla, who was sexully assaulted at the age of 8, by a juvenile that was 14 years old, had the opportunity to speak about her assault to Congress in hopes of inplementing changes to prevent there being other victims that would have to experience the same trauma that she had endured. 

She used her voice to help shape the laws we have today.  Amie and her supporters recognized the dangerous loopholes we had in legislation, and were able to bring their concerns to Congress.  While Congress did make some changes, it seems that loopholes continue to exist, and be exploited by juvenile offenders today.  Congress MUST readdress the issues they looked at 14 years ago, and update them to reflect the realities of society today.  

If we do not learn from our past, history is bound to repeat itself.  Amie was assaulted nearly 20 years ago.  While Congress made some changes, offenders, such as the one that assaulted by daughter, managed to slip through the cracks.  We need to readdress the issue, and close loopholes that were left behind.  We must ACT NOW to save other children from having to experience the same trauma, that far too many have had to endure.
