We ask MP Hogan to apologise and step down.

On Saturday, June 6 2020, the Widjabul Wybal people of the Bundjalung Nation — and their allies — congregated in support of the global civil rights movement, Black Lives Matter, and to protest against Indigenous deaths in custody and police brutality.

Australia’s First Nations People have been fighting this war against modes of oppression, systemic racism and institutionalised violence since 1788. Never during the colonisation of Australia did Black Lives Matter. This is a fact.

Following the peaceful protest, local MP Hogan published a divisive, racist and demonising post on Facebook. We understand that people like MP Hogan have been conditioned to be racist and have no insight into the ways they have benefited, and continue to benefit, from white supremacy; however, ignorance will no longer be tolerated and his ignorance is inexcusable.

We can no longer afford to have ignorance running this country. Now is the time for change. Now is the time for Kevin Hogan to apologise, step aside and allow other voices to rise.
