Save the sacred Sleeping Lizard from being stolen by Lismore City Council

The issue

Last year Lismore City Council, in a historic move, voted to hand back sacred land (Sleeping Lizard) to the Widjabul Wijabul people of the Bundjalung nation.

We know that this land was never ceded, a treaty was never signed. We know that this land was stolen. In handing this land back, Lismore Council put action to the words, Always Was, Always Will Be, Aboriginal Land. In doing so, Lismore Council has shown the rest of the nation what true reconciliation and healing country means.

But in a most disgraceful move, Lismore City Councillors are being asked to vote next Tuesday 8 February 2022 to take the land back off the local custodians. In other words to steal it once again.

We cannot let this happen. We only have a few days to do this.

This is not just a local Lismore issue, this is of NATIONAL importance. Please share this wide and far, across the many nations in Australia and let us gather as many signatures we can to show our utter OUTRAGE at this move and to show our unwavering SUPPORT for the local Widjabal Wijabul people of the Bundjalung Nation.

Let Lismore City Councillors know what YOU think by signing this petition which will be tabled at the meeting next Tuesday 8 February 2022.
