On an everyday basis I receive information and questions from you the teachers and staff at LISD schools. Most of these questions start with the word “Why”. This seems to be the same word we all use when questioning our school board or multiple superintendents in our district. It also seems to never be answered, but just ignored. Let’s have an English lesson to begin this blog. Let’s look at the word “WHY”. The word WHY is an adverb meaning for what purpose. We seem to all want to know “What purpose “our district has by making such terrible decisions. To be honest with you, I don’t think it’s not because they are ignoring us, but it’s because they themselves don’t have the answers to the questions, and that is where the problem lies. You should never make any decisions without having the answers already in place. So here I am with more questions from you the teachers and staff that will most likely never be answered, due to the fact no one from upper management has an answer.
Why does the district insist on Flex days? The students who come are the very element that skip or are SE students who did not get the subject the first time and will not no matter how many days they stay. Some of the SE students from last year who attended flex days were passed onto the next grade level regardless of their grade. If this is how we handle business then why "punish" them with flex days. All we are doing is exposing students to more and more negative individuals. And in the end it comes down to crowd control for money. The administration is completely out of touch. What happened to administration coming and teaching a class every week? Not just in IB or advanced classes but the classes no one enjoys teaching, where no one can effectively get a lesson out because of all of the disruption. Discipline is a joke here at the high school and the students know it. It's been a snowball for decades...and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. When will they realize if we don't accept this behavior then and only then will it stop? We have to stop it early. Waiting until they reach high school isn't working. No respect for teachers or authority yet we are supposed to be preparing them for life
Why is an administrator over Deaf Ed that does not know sign.....go figure. And has no idea what is best for the hearing impaired student. Neither does any other administrator. So this administrator just keeps hanging on and collects money that could be used for interpreter raises which never happen.
So as you can see the teachers, staff and community want to know WHY. I have always been told the squeaky wheel gets the grease, so continue to send me your questions, and I will continue to keep fighting for the answers you deserve. Please take the time to share with as many concerned community members as you can so that these issues can be brought to the attention they deserve. WE are in charge of our district not them.
Thank You,
Jason Bates
