After weeks of research I have learned many things about special education classes, and classroom size. I have found that in special education classes there should be 40 square feet per child. After looking over the building schematics of Johnson McQueen I have learned that the room they are currently using for special education classes is under 500 square feet. So let’s just say the room is 500 square feet, and each child needs 40 square feet by state law, you would only be allowed 12.5 students in this room, since we can’t have ½ of a child let’s just call it 12. That tells me that with a class of 12 you need a 480 square foot classroom. At Johnson McQueen the current room used for a special education classroom is too small by state regulations. By using the freedom of information act I have found out that there are a total of 19 students crammed in to this tiny room. By state regulations this room should be close to 800 square feet. So why has nothing been done to help Johnson McQueen’s special education department? As a parent and resident in district 1 why are we allowing this to continue? Here is your answer, our current special education director doesn’t seem to care. I have been contacted by many parents that have special needs children in this school screaming for help. They continue to talk to Joyce Thompson, and are continuously ignored. So now she has to deal with me, and we all know I don’t play well in a sandbox full of idiots. I am a call it as I see it kind of guy, and as I see it, this individual needs to start doing the job she was hired for the right way, and quit thinking everyone is a racist when they do not agree with you. This nonsense has gone on for too long. I have received over 200 phone calls, letters and texts from concerned parent of special needs children claiming that Mr. Thompson simply doesn’t care about their child, and many have even left the district. It is time for us as a community to not ignore the lawlessness going on in our special education department and protect these kids and staff members. Mrs. Thompson I hope that you somehow are able to read this and it gives you the encouragement you need to get off your butt and do your job, if not I hope you are ready for next year’s election, because if I win district 1, I will not stand by and let you continue to intimidate teachers and staff, and will force you to make corrections on all of the many issues our special education department is facing. You may not like me but by god you will either do your job correctly or we will find someone that will! I am a very compassionate person and believe in doing the right thing. So Mrs. Thompson tell us why you have let this happen for so long? I am not a hard person to find and would love for you to call me, and answer all the question I have for you, but more than likely you will just continue sitting behind your desk doing nothing. I want this issue a Johnson McQueen corrected before next year, along with the many other issues our special education department has faced this year. Thank You, Jason Bates
