So after I published the following information for LISD teachers. I received a comment from one of my followers on Facebook to pose the following question on the LISD’S LETS TALK page on the LISD web site. I sent this to LISD on April 6th, and as of April 18th I have not received any official response. On the web site it states the following, “Once you click on a topic below and make a submission through Let’s Talk, the proper person will be notified. If you request a response, you will hear back from us within two school days.” I do believe it has been 12 days with no response to the following information sent: I went back and looked at the school calendar for next year that is posted online and here is what I counted. Just days for students and the legislation says to count recess and lunch during each day. August = 8 September = 21 October = 21 November = 17 December = 12 January = 20 February = 20 March = 18 April = 19 May = 20 Total = 176 days for students our current length of day (at the high school) is 8:15 - 4:05 = 7:50 = 470 minutes 470 x 176 = 82,720 minutes for what is scheduled for next year. State required is 75,600 minutes 82,720 - 75,600 = 7120 minutes over what is required which then equates to 7120/470 = 15.15 days of school over required. Even if the length of school day was shortened by say 10 minutes that would be 176 x 10 = 1760 minutes and we would still be 5360 minutes over or 11.6 days extra. I realize that some of the elementary or jr. highs may have a shorter day than high schools do, but I can't see how it would make a difference of over 11 days worth of school. And one last thought, I know that teachers are on a 10-month contract, but sooner or later someone either here or some other school district is going to push the issue about having to work extra time and not being paid for it . you be the judge and tell me why I have not received a formal response.make a submission
