Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition and shared it. If you have not shared it and would like to, please take a few minutes to share it through your social media, over text, or via email. The developments are below.
As of now, only two school board members have responded to the email we sent them. One of them said to let the staff answer our questions and address our concerns, and the other said Drs. Thornell, Rapp, and Rogers would be able to better address our questions and concerns. These three school district officials have now been made the decision makers for this petition.
In addition, Lewisville ISD has updated their FAQs. One of the things they addressed was why they went with Edgenuity as their learning platform for this year. Below is what they said.
"While LISD believes strongly that there is not substitute for high quality instruction provided in person by one of our teachers, Edgenuity is a nationally recognized leader in on-line education. It was one of several products reviewed by the Learning and Teaching team and deemed to be the best in overall curriculum, user-friendliness, and student engagement. The LISD Technology Department has worked extensively with the implementation team and we expect a seamless transition to the learning platform for our teachers and students. Our own LISD teachers will be monitoring student progress and giving feedback to help the learning and our expectation will be that the curriculum matches our high expectations."
LISD has also added two new courses to the courses available virtually, AP Humanities (AP English III & AP US History) and Humanties (AP Human Geography & PAP English 1). These courses were available separately previously, but now LISD is also offering the combined versions virtually.
Students in LISD, your course selections are due by August 5th at 11:59 pm. Together we can make our voices heard and get the change we deserve before the final deadline!
