Schools are among the largest emitters of greenhouse gases in a community. The 43 schools that make up Leander ISD can help protect the futures of its 42,000+ students and 2,000+ staff by committing all 43 schools to transition to run on 100% clean, renewable energy. 

Leander Green Schools Campaign is a student-led initiative with a mission to commit LISD to transition all of its schools to 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and all other energy needs by 2040. These other energy needs include transportation (the public bus system) and heating ventilation and air conditioning, to name a few. 

Economic Benefits of a transition to renewable energy: K-12 school districts across America spend an average of $8 billion on energy every year. Transitioning to renewable energy methods could cut that cost by at least $2 billion. This saved money can then be reinvested into the classroom, to all of us students. 

Not only is there an economic incentive to transitioning Leander ISD to renewable energy, there is a huge health benefit as well. As mentioned earlier, school districts are among the largest emitters of greenhouse gases in a community. Everyday that Leander ISD remains on non-renewable energy methods is another day that tons of GHG emissions are being pumped into the air, contributing to rising temperatures and air pollution. We as youth want to protect the futures that we are currently working very hard towards, and that starts with making a positive change in our schools. 

As a result, we need your help to commit Leander ISD to 100% clean, renewable energy. We need to show the Leander ISD Board of Trustees the community support we have for this initiative before proposing the goal of the initiative to board members.
